Next.js and Storyblok platform rebuild for FGS Global

orange, sage, yellow and white graphic elements

FGS Global's website was slow, hard to manage, and falling behind the firm's global scale. Naturaily rebuilt it with Next.js and Storyblok: 128 components, 1,500+ migrated content items, and a custom Algolia search engine. The partnership is still active, with new features shipping continuously.

What FGS Global needed from a new web platform

FGS Global provides strategic counsel to corporations, governments, and institutions across more than 25 offices worldwide. Their website had to reflect that scale. They came to Naturaily with a clear list of requirements:

  • Replace a slow, brittle codebase with a high-performance foundation

  • Give their content team a modern CMS with a visual editor and approval workflows

  • Support multilingual content management across regions

  • Build a custom search engine that they could fully control

  • Integrate cleanly with internal systems including their company intranet, ATS platforms, and job boards

  • Find a partner willing to take full technical ownership of the project long term

Why the legacy platform was holding the team back

FGS Global's website worked, but only barely. Performance benchmarks were poor, the CMS required workarounds that slowed a team of roughly 12 content editors, and their search function gave them no control over what results appeared or how users were routed.

Our website wasn't performing as it should, and we needed a partner to help us create a digital platform that truly represents our company.

Performance problems ran deeper than slow load times

An early audit uncovered issues at the code level: poor rendering strategy, an underpowered hosting setup, and structural problems that compounded over time. The site was slow for users and difficult to maintain, harder to extend, and increasingly expensive to keep stable.

The CMS blocked the content team instead of enabling them

With a dozen editors working across regions, content management had become fragmented. There was no visual editor, no structured component library, and no approval workflow. Editors worked around the system rather than through it, which slowed publishing and created inconsistencies across pages.

Search gave users the wrong answers

FGS Global's existing search tool surfaced results it couldn't be configured to adjust. They couldn't prioritize certain content types, redirect specific queries, or surface different result formats depending on context. For a firm whose website is a primary business development tool, that mattered.

The job and integration layer was manual and disconnected

Syncing job listings from Greenhouse and Softgarden into the website required manual steps. The company intranet, MyFGS, operated separately. There was no unified data layer connecting these systems.

How Naturaily rebuilt FGS Global's platform

Naturaily took full technical responsibility for the project from day one. That meant architecture decisions, implementation, CMS design, integrations, and QA. The approach was to build a system the content team could actually use, not just a faster version of what existed before.

Naturaily's modern approach and focus on performance and usability were exactly what we needed to take our website to the next level.

Next.js as the performance foundation

Naturaily built the frontend in Next.js, using a combination of server-side rendering and static site generation to eliminate the performance bottlenecks in the previous stack. React's component model made it possible to manage 128 distinct content components cleanly, with room to add more.

Storyblok as the editor-first CMS

Storyblok was chosen specifically for its visual editor. Editors can now build and preview pages directly, work within a structured block library, and submit content through an approval flow before it goes live. Storyblok's built-in internationalization handles multilingual publishing without custom workarounds.

Custom search engine built on Algolia

Naturaily integrated Algolia and built a search experience that FGS Global controls entirely. The engine handles different content types, surfaces contextually relevant results, and redirects users dynamically based on their query.

Clean integrations with Greenhouse, Softgarden, and MyFGS

Job listings now sync automatically from both ATS platforms into Storyblok, removing the manual step entirely. The website connects to MyFGS (the company intranet) to give employees a seamless experience. External collaborators get access to time-limited, password-protected content through a purpose-built distribution system.

TypeScript, testing, and a stable foundation

The codebase runs on TypeScript throughout, with CSS Modules and Sass for styling and Framer Motion for animations. Storybook documents the component library. Jest and Playwright cover unit and end-to-end testing. The goal was a codebase that the next developer who touches it can understand immediately.

What changed after the platform went live

The website FGS Global launched with Naturaily is faster, easier to manage, and better integrated with the tools their team uses every day. But the more meaningful outcome is what it made possible afterward.

Now we have a modern, scalable, and efficient web platform, laying the foundation for improved digital operations and enhanced content management.

The content team works in the CMS, not around it

With 128 structured components, a visual editor, and a content approval flow, the editorial team can publish faster and with more consistency. New pages go live without a developer in the loop.

Search surfaces what users actually need

FGS Global now controls exactly how search results behave. They can tune relevance, add result types, and redirect high-intent queries to the right landing pages. The Algolia integration gives them data to improve the experience over time.

External and internal access is handled by the platform

The three-tier access system handles public visitors, employees, and external collaborators in a single coherent framework. Time-limited password-protected pages mean sensitive materials can be shared securely without a separate tool.

The partnership continues growing

Naturaily remains FGS Global's development partner. Since launch, the team has shipped additional features, refined the component library, and extended integrations as the firm's digital needs have grown.

Outcome

We rebuilt FGS Global's platform with Next.js and Storyblok, replacing a slow and rigid codebase with a fast, editor-friendly system that the content team can run without developer support

Before

FGS Global's website ran on a fragile codebase with poor performance, a CMS that blocked their editors, and a search tool they had no way to control.

After

FGS Global now has a high-performing Next.js platform, a structured Storyblok CMS with visual editing and approval workflows, a custom Algolia search engine, and an ongoing development partnership that keeps the platform moving forward.

Our work helped FGS Global achieve:

A performant, maintainable codebase

Next.js, TypeScript, and a structured component library replaced an error-prone legacy stack.

A CMS the content team controls

Storyblok's visual editor and approval workflows let roughly 12 editors publish without relying on developers.

Custom search with full editorial control

Algolia-powered search handles multiple content types, dynamic redirects, and configurable relevance.

Automated data pipelines

Job listings sync from Greenhouse and Softgarden automatically. The MyFGS intranet integrates directly with the website.

Secure tiered content access

Public pages, employee-only sections, and time-limited external collaborator access, all managed in one system.

A scalable foundation for ongoing development

128 components, 1,500+ migrated content items, and a clean architecture the team continues to build on.

Enhanced search

Custom content search engine

Naturaily built the search layer using Algolia and Storyblok together. The result is a search experience that handles different content types, supports configurable relevance, and routes users based on what they are looking for. FGS Global can adjust results without touching code.

Smarter filters

Advanced filtering on high-traffic pages

Pages like /people and /insights serve a lot of different audiences. Naturaily built advanced content filters that let users narrow results by practice area, region, and topic. The filters are fast, built into the page architecture, and maintained through Storyblok.

Service offerings categorized under Crisis Management, Global Public Affairs, and Strategy & Reputation, with various sub-services listed.

Unified data

Automated job listing sync

Rather than managing job listings manually, FGS Global pulls live data from Greenhouse and Softgarden directly into Storyblok. New roles appear automatically. Closed roles disappear. The content team does nothing.

Secure access

Smart content access management

FGS Global serves three distinct audiences from the same website: public visitors, employees, and time-limited external collaborators. Each group sees only what they should. External collaborators access password-protected content through expiring links, with no separate portal required.

Why Naturaily is FGS Global's long-term technology partner

The initial engagement was a full platform rebuild under tight time constraints. FGS Global needed a partner who could take complete technical ownership, make fast decisions, and deliver a production-ready system. That is what happened. And when the project shipped, the relationship didn't end.

Naturaily continues to develop the FGS Global platform, shipping improvements across performance, CMS tooling, integrations, and new product features. The team assigned to the account has worked with the client long enough to understand the business, not just the codebase.
