Overview

Importance of UX Design for Web & Mobile

Investing in UX design at the initial development phase will save you money, boost your conversion, increase your return on investment, and improve retention.

With the right methodologies, user-centered approach, and data-based decisions, you can build a product tailored right to your audience’s needs.
A study by Forrester has shown that companies that invest in UX see lowered costs of customer acquisition, lowered support cost, increased customer retention, and increased market share. Furthermore, statistics show that every $1 invested in UX brings $100 in return, which brings the ROI to a staggering 1,000 per cent.

Product Design and Development for a Book Sharing Platform

snipsl screens

Snipsl is a platform for sharing books and stories for both readers and authors. Our goal was to let the authors interact with their readers better - we achieved that by adding a survey system and letting users ‘heart’ the stories and easily share them on social media.

This successful cooperation has resulted in over 5,000 active users and 900 books published by 500 authors.

Process

Our Product Design Process

When designing a product, we have to do it based on human nature, not what we think is human nature. Reliable and properly interpreted data is the best basis in the design process.

An invaluable stage of this creative process is a five-day series of interactive workshops when we take the product from its initial design idea through to prototyping and user testing.

These few days of intensive work results in the knowledge base necessary to design the right product.

Analysis of User Needs
and Business Goals

product design

This is the initial stage of the product design process that helps to define problems that the designed product may be a solution to. By asking some basic questions, like:

  • what problem are we trying to solve?
  • who has that problem?
  • what do we want to accomplish?

we are getting closer to understanding the user experience of a product as a whole (not only its look & feel) and understanding the product's context for existence.

Based on that we can define the product vision, do the product research and make in-depth user analysis to identify all the market opportunities and threats - which smoothly leads us to the second stage.

Strategy Development
Based on Insights

product design

Business strategy is the foundation for the effective product design process. Before the development process begins it’s priceless to know if the product or service is really what people need.

The first reason for startup failure, according to CB Insights, is “no market needed” (42%). Next are run out of cash, not the right team, pricing issues or poor marketing. All of them can be eliminated by proper preparation = creating a business strategy.

Design of User Experience
and User Interface

product design

Knowing all the necessary basics like target group, users’ needs, users’ journeys and having all the useful tools such as sketches, wireframes, personas and surveys we can start the design phase.

The first part of the process is prototyping which helps to deliver a good user experience. It gives a chance to test an idea before building the full solution. The created prototype is then reviewed, refined and iterated. At the end of the prototyping phase, the design will be ready for production.

The next steps are testing and validating to make sure the design concept works as intended.

Development Based on
the Right Technologies

product design

The development phase is the final one. We start by choosing the right technologies, tools and workflow to achieve set goals. Depending on the requirements and project itself we can choose Jamstack development, PWA development, Ruby on Rails development, React development or other approaches. Then we set up the team of developers dedicated to your project and prepare the development schedule to make sure that the product will be ready just on time to conquer the market.

Dajemy Slowo is a marketing agency focused on delivering high-quality textual and visual content.

The goal was to create a funky and visually appealing website that would be fast and easy to manage by a non-technical team.

We’ve decided to build it on Jamstack, using Gatsby, Netlify for hosting and Sanity as a CMS.

Services

UX Research

As we said before knowing is the key to success not presuming. That’s why we ask questions, we take notes, we try to know as much as possible about the target audience.

Research is a powerful tool for helping us identify and either prove or disprove our assumptions. It also helps us recognize the needs and goals of future users, as well as their mental model, consequently enabling us in creating better products and services.

There are many research methodologies available, from in-person interviews to unmoderated A/B tests. We choose the ones that turn out to be the most appropriate in a given situation to understand the ‘how’ and the ‘why’.

Thanks to UX research we can design with the end-user in mind.

Double Diamond Methodology for Product Design

Double Diamond model has been invented by the British Design Council, back in 2005.
It is extremely useful when we face a problem, a difficult task or a promising opportunity.

As you can see below DD process has four main stages: Discover, Define, Develop and Delivery.
This non-linear type of workflow helps us to organize our thoughts and improve the creative process.

Services

Visual Design

Visual Design improves the aesthetic layer of the project with original graphics, fonts, typography, layout and colors and makes it more user-oriented.

There are more benefits of good visual design then many may think. This is a way to stand out, be memorable and make the product more user-friendly thanks to i.e. well-knit interface.

Visual design is much more than just product prettiness.

Illustrations

You have got only 50 milliseconds to make the first impression. Original illustrations are a great way to do it. Be unique. Be memorable.

UI Design

A great user interface is a way to grab users’ attention, make a good impression, encourage the use, and even reduce the support costs in the long run.

Workshops

workshops

Product Design Workshop is the best way to clarify your vision, get the answers to crucial questions, and determine the final product you want to create.

We will adapt proven methodologies (such as event storming and business model canvas) to achieve these goals.

product design

All conclusions will be written down in the post-workshop report, including documentation and wireframes, which will be an excellent starting point in the development process.

These five days of hard work will surely pay off, as we will identify all the weak points of the project, plan further work and carefully estimate the budget.

FAQ

FAQs About Product Design

  • 01

    What is Design Thinking?

Design thinking is an iterative process of creating new and innovative ideas that solve problems. It seeks to understand users, make and challenge assumptions, redefine problems and create break-through solutions to prototype and test.

The method consists of 5 phases:
    • Empathize
    • Define
    • Ideate
    • Prototype
    • Test
It is not limited to any specific industry - it can be effective in design, technology or education, as it may be in other services.
  • 02

Why do I need a prototype?

Prototyping your future product or service before the launch of the final version has several advantages.

Making a prototype can highlight any conceptual or technical difficulties of the idea. Letting you test your product’s usability, navigation or information architecture also enhances the quality of your website or an app as a result.

One of the advantages of using prototypes is reducing the risk of the project, as compared to a project in which prototyping was not included. It also lets you better estimate the number of work hours and resources needed.

Finally, a prototype is a simulation of your future product, so it can help attract investors to your project before allocating any resources needed for implementation. Showing it to a bigger number of potential users will also provide you with a valuable feedback on your product’s usability.

When can you start working on my project?

Our accessibility ranges from “right away” to 6-8 weeks, depending on our teams’ work status.
